Hockey NorthEast has merged with the Eastern Hockey Federation

2013-07-11

Hockey NorthEast has merged with the Eastern Hockey Federation beginning with the upcoming 2013-14 season.

Hockey NorthEast has officially merged with the Eastern Hockey Federation beginning with the upcoming season. The EHF has formed a new Tier 1 division between it's Elite Division and it's AAA Division. The HNE teams will be playing in the Tier 1 division. All of the HNE teams that we have played in the past have moved to the EHF with us. The merger was a long drawn out process over the past 5 months. Some of the highlights of the merger:

  • Due to the late finalization of the deal each HNE team will join with the EHF AAA and play a home and home series. This should result in about 40 games per division. By being members of EHF we will be allowed to schedule games with the EHF Elite teams.

  • Beginning in the 2014-15 season up to 2 teams will be allowed to "play-in" to the EHF Elite division. The other teams will play in a parity format to determine the next best dozen teams to play in the Tier 1 division with the remaining teams playing at AAA after parity.
We're excited for the new direction we're about to take.   We believe that the strength of our program and other fellow HNE programs combined with EHF programs will create very competitive enviroment for our teams to play in this season and beyond.
